County Board Accreditation

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities conducts an accreditation review of each county board of developmental disabilities at least once every three years to determine compliance with applicable statutes and rules.  

 

This review includes a comprehensive review by department staff on-site at board facilities and an off-site review of records, documents, or other materials.  

 

There are three possible outcomes of this review:  

  • CBDD exceeds minimum compliance and receives a three  year accreditation 

  • CBDD demonstrates minimum compliance and receives a one year accreditation 

  • CBDD is not in compliance and works with the department to develop a plan of correction, or a plan of action to come into compliance within 90 calendar days, during which the CBDD cannot enroll people with disabilities in home and community-based service waivers.  

Upon completion of the accreditation review, the department conducts a conference with the CBDD superintendent to discuss findings, compliance status, and any areas of noncompliance.  

 

CBDD financial records must be in compliance with county and state auditor requirements. 

  

Each facility owned, leased, and operated by a county board must be inspected by the local fire marshal or designee to ensure compliance with fire safety practices.
