During my transition into the CIO role at the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD), I was introduced to Bridget Gargan and Adam Herman from the Ohio Association of County Boards (OACB). OACB had surveyed developmental disabilities stakeholders and scheduled to meet with Director Jeff Davis to share the results of this survey. The survey results, not surprisingly, highlighted opportunities for DODD to improve. What impressed me was that this information was conveyed in a way that was intended to promote collaboration and improvement for the DD community, not finger-pointing and blame. The ensuing conversation focused on how we could and should work together.
On May 21 2019, a Developmental Disabilities Information Systems Stakeholder Workgroup meeting was held with representatives from various counties, providers, OACB and the software vendor community in attendance. To show our commitment to improving collaboration, we demonstrated our Governance Committee process that will be used to approve and prioritize DODD ITS projects, along with a weighted scoring tool that will be used by the Governance Committee to assist with prioritization. We also previewed a projects dashboard that will allow all DD stakeholders to see planned and in progress projects, application support releases, and business intelligence/data warehouse initiatives.
With the skilled resources we have at DODD and the availability of some truly amazing technology, we have a great opportunity to make significant and lasting changes to benefit the Ohio DD community for years to come. Achieving success will require collaboration that ensures voices are heard, opinions are respected and ultimately decisions made are supported. I look forward to being part of many great collaborative successes here at DODD.
