WSYX ABC 6: Ohio Home and Personal Care Workers Get Pay Raise

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — Workers who provide home and personal care to Ohioans with developmental disabilities are getting a pay raise.

State leaders shared Tuesday that a partnership between the state and local groups has led to the first-ever pay raise for direct support professionals in over a decade.

Advocate Nicolas Cornstock said the raise has given him hope for the future.

"Hopefully, because of this increase will be able to increase the staff for us and individuals won't have to wait in bed for hours at a time or wait for transportation. And so my heart is filled with hope this morning for the whole field," said Cornstock.

The pay increase was included as part of the state budget passed earlier this summer. The rest of the funding comes from county boards of developmental disabilities.
