HUD Guidance on Assistance Animals
April is Fair Housing Month, which is a good reminder that on January 28, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released guidance on “Assessing a Person’s Request to Have an Animal as a Reasonable Accommodation Under the Fair Housing Act.” View guidance here.
This guidance is a tool for housing providers and people with disabilities to use at their discretion and provides a set of best practices for addressing requests for reasonable accommodations to keep animals in housing where people with disabilities reside or seek to reside.
