Supporting Health and Welfare

Caregivers play many different roles and one of the most important ones is when they assist individuals with medical appointments. Direct Support Professionals and other caregivers play a critical part in sharing medical history, current medications, supporting individuals to be comfortable interacting with medical professionals and advocating for comprehensive, quality medical care. All of these tasks are time consuming and challenging, but vital to the individual's health and welfare.

Included are some resources that we hope you will find beneficial in your important work supporting individuals with developmental disabilities to receive the most optimal care in the most comfortable manner.

Every Healthy Person

The Every Healthy Person initiative was a combined effort between the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). The initiative focused on the importance of preventive healthcare, including periodic health care screenings, for people with developmental disabilities. While the initiative is no longer active, the program's planning and informational materials that were developed to help individuals, family members, providers, and health care practitioners plan for screenings and other preventive care are still relevant.
